Help & Information

What is this?

  • These are live electronic postcards.

What does that mean?

  • You pick an image, then a live radio station, then you enter your name and email address, and a friends email address and name, finally you enter a card title & personal message to your friend.
  • Then a UNIX based program makes a virtual card and puts it at a secret location. It tells you the location and emails your friend instantly the location of it also.
  • The actual virtual card consists of: The picture you choose, the title you chose, your personal message and a live broadcast.
  • After 7 days the card is automatically deleted
  • No one is spammed as a result of sending live electronic postcards from here, we store no email addresses! To read more on out privacy policy, see the privacy information page.

How does the live broadcast work?

  • The realplayer audio plugin on your machine is used to let you hear a live radio station directly from each card. Not a popup - embedded.

I have a good browser and the plugin but get error messages?

  • Occasionally a radio feed will go down, when this happens, often an error will appear saying you do not have the plugin, this is a result of questionable programming by the makers of the plugin, who do not take into account stations going offline at times. We try to keep an eye on all the stations available via Radiocards.Net (not so much anymore - this is a museum site), and when one becomes frequently unreliable, we replace it with a different station.

Where can I get the plugin to hear the radio?

  • Most people already have it, in fact you probably have it even if you don't know about it.
  • On some Windows 98 CD's
  • As an optional install component with all modern versions of Netscape.
  • As an optional install component with some versions of Internet Explorer 4.
  • The plugin can also be downloaded free! just go to real.com and download it for free, there are 2 versions, one free and one not free, but the free one will work perfectly for you. There is a link on every card to download it if you need it.

What browser works best to see it?

  • This site is designed to be perfectly functional with almost every modern browser. However, our personal favourite is Netscape 4 or better.

I can't still collect the card!

  • Due to a Microsoft bug, errr, "feature", if you don't have the realplayer plugin (unlikely) some older versions of Internet Explorer have problems displaying a page with a live radio stream embedded in it, instead of just not providing the audio stream, they just refuse to show the page, the fix is simply to download the free version of the Real player Plugin. You only need the free version (WHICH THEY TRY TO HIDE). There has been no recorded instance of cards not being created, and that is after tens of millions of cards. I personally don't recommend giving RealNetworks your main email address!

How much does it cost to send a card?

  • It's free! Send as many as you want!

How much does it cost to receive to send a card?

  • It's free! receive as many as you want! ;-)
